The works of Dr. Seuss continue to inspire adults and children alike. Books such as Dr. Seuss’ whimsical tales encourage children to think deeper and to be analytical and imaginative; these are skills that position them for future success in academics and the job market. As such, it is of the utmost importance that we promote reading among school-aged children. That is why I am introducing a resolution recognizing March 2, 2019, as “Read Across America Day” in Pennsylvania. The National Education Association’s Read Across America program began in 1998 as the largest celebration of reading in our nation’s history. Observed each year on Dr. Seuss’ birthday, Read Across America continues to be the nation’s largest reading event with millions of readers participating nationwide. It is supported by over 3.2 million members of the National Education Association, including elementary and secondary school teachers, higher education faculty members, educational support professionals, school administrators, retired educators, and students pursuing careers in education. Please join me in supporting a lifetime of reading, imagination and learning for Pennsylvanians of all ages. Your consideration and co-sponsorship are appreciated. |
