Subject: | Resolution Recognizing and Sending Our Support to the Victims of the Shooting in Christchurch, New Zealand (REDRAFT) |
On Friday, March 15, 2019, an armed gunman carried out a terrorist attack targeting the Muslim community in central Christchurch, New Zealand. Tragically, forty-nine people were killed in shootings at two mosques, in a terrorist attack that New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardern described as “an extraordinary and unprecedented act of violence.” Time and again these shootings and tragic loss of life take place, and we are reminded that as a community we need to continue to spread messages of love and acceptance. We need our collective voices of peace to speak louder than those individuals spreading messages of hate and committing these horrifying acts. The time has long past for us to ensure that there is no room for hate in our society. Please join me in co-sponsoring this resolution to demonstrate Pennsylvania’s support for the victims’ families, survivors, and Christchurch, New Zealand, as they continue to grieve and heal. |
