Subject: | Resolution Designating the Month of May 2019 as "Preeclampsia Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania |
In the very near future I will be introducing a resolution designating the month of May 2019 as "Preeclampsia Awareness Month" in Pennsylvania. Preeclampsia, including HELLP Syndrome and Eclampsia, is a dangerous condition of pregnancy that can, in its severest form, lead to maternal and/or infant mortality or premature birth, with significant health risks for both the mother and the baby. As many as 320,000 cases of Preeclampsia are diagnosed in the United States every year, with approximately 25 percent of these cases resulting in severe, life-threatening consequences to a pregnant woman and her baby. The goal of this resolution is to reduce the incidence of maternal and infant illness and mortality by raising public awareness of the dangers of Preeclampsia and related hypertensive disorders of pregnancy. I hope you will join me in co-sponsoring this resolution. Your support is greatly appreciated. |
