Subject: | Shaken Baby Syndrome Awareness Week - April 15 - 21, 2019 |
I plan to once again introduce a resolution recognizing the week of April 15 - 21, 2019 as “Shaken Baby Syndrome Awareness Week” in Pennsylvania. In the United States, approximately 1,300 infants and young children are diagnosed with shaken baby syndrome every year, with medical experts believing that thousands of additional cases are misdiagnosed or undetected. Approximately one out of four victims die as a result of direct brain injuries. In 2006, Pennsylvania became the first state to provide hospital-based education in 100% of all birthing and children’s hospitals. Please join me in cosponsoring this important resolution to bring awareness to this entirely preventable injury. Thank you. |
