Subject: | Month of the Young Child |
Research has shown that access to high-quality early education programs positively impacts a young child’s development by helping them learn academic, social, emotional and cognitive skills. But unfortunately, only about one in six of Pennsylvania’s young children aged four to five are enrolled in a publicly funded, high-quality early education program. While Pennsylvania has made great strides in recent years to expand access to these programs, there is still more work left to accomplish. As such, I will be introducing a resolution to designate April 2019 as “The Month of the Young Child.” This resolution will draw attention to the benefits children receive when they have the opportunity to attend an early education program, such as Head Start, Pre-K Counts, or Keystone STARS. By continuing to highlight the importance of access to early education programs, we can further advance our work to expand access to these programs to all of Pennsylvania’s young children. As state legislators, one of our most important duties is to ensure a thorough and efficient system of public education. Please join me in supporting this important resolution. |
