Subject: | Non-Recyclable and Non-Compostable Food and Beverage Containers |
Each year, customers at Commonwealth cafeterias and snack bars throw away thousands of pounds of non-recyclable and non-compostable food and beverage containers. Like most waste, these discarded containers are sent to landfills, exacerbating an ever-growing problem of waste pollution in Pennsylvania. It’s time for us to change this behavior, and this legislation is a start. My legislation would simply require Commonwealth agencies, in coordination with the Department of General Services, to ban the use of non-recyclable and non-compostable food and beverage containers in state-owned buildings. It’s an easy place to start to tackle this problem. If the state can’t lead on this issue, how can we expect others to do the same. Let’s get started here – in our own house. Please join me in supporting this important legislation. |
