Subject: | Celebrating the National Coalition of 100 Black Women |
One of the most significant accomplishments that Black women have made historically is in their ability to mobilize, take action and make a difference in their communities. Continuing in that tradition, 24 visionary Black women began meeting in their homes in New in York City in 1970, to assess the problems and opportunities left behind in the wake of the turbulent 1960s. Their mission was simply to build partnerships that would serve and make a difference in their communities and to mobilize their emerging stature as a visible force of influence promoting gender and racial equity. As a result of their efforts, these women formed what is known today as the National Coalition of 100 Black Women. Today, the National Coalition of 100 Black Women has garnered thousands of members and has 60 chapter covering 28 states nationwide, including several chapters right here in Pennsylvania. Standing strong on their commitment to promote economic empowerment, education, health and good public policy, the women of The National Coalition of 100 Black Women have emerged as a united voice for more than 20 million Black women. The women of the National Coalition of 100 Black Women tirelessly work to master root causes of issues that affect their families, their communities, and themselves. They boldly reach out to other Black women in common cause, and seek to develop alliances with those in leadership from corporate, civic, political and governmental agencies in an effort to build partnerships that will serve and make a difference in their communities. It is for this reason and many more that we ask that you join us in recognizing the countless efforts that the women of The National Coalition of 100 Black Women have made in the Commonwealth and across the country, by supporting this legislation. |
