Subject: | Expediting Transfers of Property to Land Banks |
Blighted properties have become an epidemic across Pennsylvania. These vacant, abandoned, and tax-delinquent properties harm communities by lowering property values and creating dangerous conditions in our neighborhoods. To help combat blight, the General Assembly passed legislation allowing local governments to create land banks. Land banks, working with local governments and authorities, can help return blighted properties to productive uses in our communities. However, the current law allows for unnecessary barriers when local governments and authorities try to transfer blighted properties to land banks. Therefore, I am introducing legislation to streamline the current process, removing barriers to ensure faster transfers of blighted properties. By removing this “red-tape,” local governments and land banks will be able to more easily begin the process of returning blighted properties to productive use in our communities. It is our duty as public servants to safeguard all Pennsylvanians by promoting clean, safe communities. I hope that you will join me in this important effort. |
