Subject: | Peace Day |
Pennsylvania was founded as a haven for civil and religious freedom by individuals who put their faith in peaceful coexistence. With wars destroying lives and communities in nations near and far, peace could not be more desperately needed. In the spirit of our Commonwealth’s tolerant history, The United Nations Association of Greater Philadelphia established “Peace Day Philly,” with cooperation from a wide range of other groups in order to promote peace and nonviolence. Peace Day Philly, which organizes Peace Day activities in the City of Brotherly Love, annually involves dozens of local and international organizations in building a culture of peace. The event is based on The United Nations International Day of Peace, otherwise known as Peace Day, which is celebrated annually on September 21. Our goal is to promote peace, tolerance, and acceptance throughout this Commonwealth. It is our duty as lawmakers to do everything in our power to promote the coexistence of all people in Pennsylvania. Your consideration of legislation designating September 21, 2019, as Peace Day is greatly appreciated. |
