Subject: | Resolution Identifying County Line Road as the CPT William J. Ahlum Memorial Highway |
I will soon introduce legislation that will honor a man from my district who died in the Vietnam War. On March 23rd, 1969, CPT William John Ahlum of Hatboro, was killed in Vietnam. He was in the regular Army and was a commissioned officer through The Pennsylvania Military College (now Widener University) in Chester, PA. At the time of his death, he was serving in 1st Logistical Command, 184th Ordnance Battalion. Will Ahlum was an excellent officer and was well-liked and respected by his soldiers. He was very concerned for the safety his soldiers and was known for his care and compassion for his men. On the night he was killed, he literally risked his own life, and went back into an impact area that had been attacked by the enemy, to insure that the area had been evacuated by his soldiers. He did not want any soldier left behind and took it upon himself to ensure this mission was completed. CPT Will Ahlum was only in Vietnam a few weeks when he was killed in Binh Dinh Province, South Vietnam. CPT Will Ahlum was the recipient of Purple Heart, National Defense Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Distinguished Service Medal, Vietnam Gallantry Cross Unit Citation, and the Good Conduct Medal I am proposing that County Line Road, between Warminster and Newtown Roads, be identified as CPT William J. Ahlum Memorial Highway to honor this American hero. Please join me in cosponsoring this legislation. |
