MEMORANDUM

Posted: June 25, 2019 03:46 PM
From: Representative David M. Delloso
To: All House members
Subject: Establishing Requirements for Trade Schools to Receive Public Funding

Skilled workers in the building trades are in high demand and it is important to provide these workers with the proper training and opportunities. Some trade schools accept taxpayer funded tuition reimbursements and grants, but pay apprentices below market wages or do not provide a job at completion of the apprenticeship.

To solve this problem, I am introducing legislation which will provide requirements in order for these schools and programs to receive state funding dollars. The first requirement is students must be provided a fair market wage while they are learning. The second is the program must provide an offer for employment at the completion of the program. Please note, my bill excludes primary Career and Technical Education Schools.

I ask that you support this legislation and join me in providing our skilled workers the best training possible and starting their careers with a living wage.
