Subject: | Legislation amending Title 34, adding blaze pink as an acceptable color for hunting |
I will be introducing a bill in the near future amending Title 34, adding the color blaze pink as an acceptable color that can be worn, in conjunction with blaze orange, when hunting. Six states currently have blaze pink added as an acceptable color to wear when hunting. Dr. Sarmadi, a Professor at the University of Wisconsin has studied this topic. His research has produced a few reasons for adding this color. In his research, he used a spectrophotometer to study if blaze pink was as visible as blaze orange. He found that in certain lighting situations and dependent on the time of year, that blaze pink is equally and at times more visible then blaze orange. The second is that deer only have two color cones in their eyes which include green and blue. Humans additionally have a red cone in their eyes. Without the red cone, the deer have a hard time seeing red colors. Pink is closer to red, while orange is closer to yellow, therefore, blaze pink is harder for the deer to see. The third reason is that blaze pink may appeal more to women and increase their participation in hunting. I hope you will cosponsor this legislation with me. |
