Subject: | Condolence Resolution Honoring the Life of Former Phila City Commissioner Margaret Tartaglione |
Margaret Tartaglione, mother to state Senator Christine Tartaglione and Renee Tartaglione, was a lifelong public servant until her passing on July 9, 2019. Known as “Marge,” Tartaglione was ahead of her time as a strong woman and political matriarch in the Philadelphia “Old Boys’ Club,” opening doors for other women in politics. In her more than four decades in politics, she worked tirelessly for her constituents. Tartaglione won her first Philadelphia citywide race as commissioner in 1975. Overseeing city elections for nearly four decades, Tartaglione served the longest tenure of any commissioner since the office was formed in the 1850s. In addition, Tartaglione served as the Democratic Ward Leader for the 62nd Ward until her passing. Please join me in honoring the life of this extraordinary political icon. |
