Subject: | “Green Alert” System for At-Risk Missing Veterans |
Many of our courageous veterans have served our nation valiantly by defending freedom around the world. Unfortunately, too many service men and women come home with mental illnesses, such as post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Having PTSD, or another combat-related mental illness, increases the possibility of harming onesself, placing too many veterans in an “at-risk” condition. In an effort to bolster support for men and women returning from service abroad, my legislation would create a “Green Alert” system in Pennsylvania. This system would be issued the same way Amber Alerts are currently issued in the Commonwealth, appearing on electronic traffic signs or text messages. An alert would be transmitted to the public when a veteran with a service-connected health issue is reported missing, greatly improving the chances of securing a safe return home. Just as we would not let missing soldiers left to lie on a battlefield without sending search-and-rescue teams to look for them, let’s not let our veterans go missing without doing all we can to find them and provide them with the help and assistance they need. Please support this important legislation. If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Jessica Luce in my Harrisburg office at (717) 772-4511 or via email at jluce@pahouse.net. |
