| Subject: | Study of Health and Humans Services Hotlines |
| I plan to introduce a resolution directing the Legislative Budget and Finance Committee to conduct a study and issue a report analyzing the current Pennsylvania health and human services hotlines and their cost. Pennsylvania provides valuable services to many of the state’s residents to address their health and human service needs; however, there is a cost to maintaining the current operations of government agency phone hotlines and support to assist those seeking information. But, if people are connected to the right help at the right time, then we will prevent escalation of needs into more serious, more disruptive and more expensive emergencies. Further, while the Commonwealth provides many beneficial programs, there are various systems, such as PA 211, that may also be able to provide valuable information for those seeking assistance. To provide Pennsylvanians with the most accurate and accessible information, we must better understand the operations of the Commonwealth’s information and referral hotlines and how those operations compare with the technology, information, accessibility, and cost of other systems that are offered by private and/or charitable entities. Please join me by co-sponsoring a study by the Legislative Budget and Finance Committee to ensure all Pennsylvanians have access to accurate and timely health and human services information. |
