MEMORANDUM

Posted: September 16, 2019 04:06 PM
From: Representative Danilo Burgos
To: All House members
Subject: Toy Gun Legislation

Children are 13% more likely to die from a gun injury, than any other injury. The repercussions of toy guns appearing real, has proven to be fatal to children. Unfortunately, this was the case for Tamir Rice, an innocent 12-year-old boy. Rice was killed by a police officer for carrying a toy gun which appeared real in a recreational center. The risks of putting children in situations, like these, where someone believes they have a real gun and acts are too high not to take action to prevent such traumatic fatalities.
The purpose of this legislation is to amend Title 18, banning the sale of certain toy guns and imitation firearms. Toy guns with vibrant colors and tones are still permissible, simply those which appear real are not. Please join us in the fight to protect our children.

Introduced as HB2216
