Subject: | Prohibiting Real Estate Developers from Harassing Homeowners to Sell |
Every day, some real estate developers employ predatory tactics harassing homeowners, often senior citizens, to sell their homes in the name of progress. The homeowner may receive several calls per day from the same entity, seeking to purchase their home. This practice is amplified in areas that are experiencing gentrification. We must provide protection for these homeowners. Based on a Chicago ordinance, my legislation will ascribe up to a $10,000 fine to real estate developers who contact a homeowner more than once in a 180-day period. It applies to phone calls, in-person visits, emails, text messages, written materials, and other means of contact. Protecting homeowners and senior citizens is paramount. No one should be consistently cajoled into selling their home so someone else may profit. Please join me in preventing this practice and standing up for the homeowners of this Commonwealth. |
