Subject: | Establishment of the Historic Preservation Incentive Grant Program (Prior HB 750) |
I am planning to reintroduce legislation to establish the Historic Preservation Incentive Grant Program within the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED). This program would provide grant incentives to the owners of properties that are on the National Register of Historic Places, are a contributing property in a National Register Historic District, or are located in a local government historic district. Grants would be used to perform exterior rehabilitation or restoration work. Residential applicants would be eligible for awards up to $15,000, and commercial applicants would be eligible for awards up to $500,000. The grant would not be more than 70% of the total expenditure for eligible improvements. This legislation would also allow DCED to prioritize applicants in Elm Street areas, Main Street communities, enterprise zones and local government historic districts.
