Subject: | Resolution - “National Crime Victims’ Rights Week” in Pennsylvania |
Any of us can become the victim of a violent crime. According to the FBI, there were approximately 1.2 million violent crimes committed in the United States in 2018. Victims and their families are no less deserving of justice, rights, resources, restoration and rehabilitation than the offenders who commit these crimes. Serving the victims of crime and ensuring justice for all will make our homes, neighborhoods, and communities safer and stronger. My resolution designates the week of April 19 through 25, 2020, as “National Crime Victims’ Rights Week” in Pennsylvania. Each year, the U.S. Department of Justice’s Office for Victims of Crime helps lead communities throughout the country in their observance of “National Crime Victims’ Rights Week.” This occasion provides an opportunity for concerned citizens, service providers, and criminal justice officials to come together to raise awareness of and celebrate the hard-won progress in victims’ rights and services. Please join me in recognizing the observance of “National Crime Victims’ Rights Week” and in supporting victims of crime throughout this Commonwealth and the nation. Thank you in advance for your consideration. |
