Subject: | Resolution: Respiratory Care Week |
The ability to breathe freely and independently seems so much of a given to most of us that we likely take it for granted. But not all of us have that same experience. For those with breathing difficulties, such as asthma, cystic fibrosis or COPD, the dedicated service of a respiratory therapist can be essential to good health and quality of life. Respiratory therapists are the only health care providers specifically trained to work with physicians in the treatment and care of respiratory patients, and complete tasks such as administering oxygen and breathing treatments and providing acute care to those who need ventilators. They even help babies who were born with underdeveloped lungs. To recognize the lifesaving work of Pennsylvania’s 7,000 licensed respiratory therapists, I will again be introducing a resolution designating the week of October 25 through 31, 2020, as National Respiratory Care Week in Pennsylvania. Please join me in celebrating respiratory therapists’ outstanding contributions to the health and wellbeing of patients young and old. |
