Subject: | Honoring the Life of Robert Mendelsohn |
Only words of kindness were spoken when remembering the life of Robert Mendelsohn. Known as “the people’s photographer,” he was renowned in Philadelphia for his depiction of the city’s African American social scene. To acknowledge Robert Mendelsohn’s character and accomplishments, we intend to introduce a resolution honoring his life. Throughout his professional career, Mr. Mendelsohn worked as a photographer for black-owned publications including the Philadelphia Sunday Sun, the Philadelphia Tribune, and the Philadelphia New Observer. In his own words, Robert Mendelsohn wanted to be remembered as “a nice guy who did the right thing and never hurt anybody and took a pretty good picture that most people seemed to like.” He passed away in late July 2019. Please join us in honoring his life by co-sponsoring this resolution. |
