Subject: | Designating March 1-8, 2020, as “Sleep Apnea Awareness Week” |
More than 18 million American adults suffer from sleep apnea, a disorder in which breathing is briefly and repeatedly interrupted during sleep. Prominent symptoms of sleep apnea include loud snoring, persistent daytime sleepiness, awakening out of breath during the night, as well as mood and memory problems. About 2-3% of American children suffer from this disease. Sleep apnea often goes undiagnosed, and, if left untreated, can lead to high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, diabetes, depression and other ailments and automobile accidents caused by falling asleep at the wheel. Please join me in promoting awareness of this disorder, and encouraging those who think they may have the disorder to seek medical treatment before they develop severe health problems, by supporting my resolution recognizing March 1-8, 2020, as “Sleep Apnea Awareness Week” in Pennsylvania. |
