Subject: | Desgnating March 2020 as "Problem Gambling Awareness Month" |
In the very near future, Chairman Jim Marshall and I will be introducing a resolution designating March 2020 as “Problem Gambling Awareness Month” in Pennsylvania. While the majority of individuals are able to responsibly enjoy gambling as a form of entertainment, approximately 4-6 million people across the U.S. suffer from problem gambling. This disease is a public health issue that affects people from all backgrounds, races and ages and can impose significant hardships on communities. The good news is that problem gambling is treatable, and numerous nonprofits, professionals and government offices are dedicated to assisting problem gamblers with regaining control over their lives. This resolution is part of both a nationwide and statewide campaign during the month of March to bring awareness to the disease and the many treatment programs available. We hope you will join with us in cosponsoring this resolution. |
