| Subject: | Honoring Davy Jones of the Monkees |
| David Thomas Jones, or Davy Jones, was a world-famous musician and performer, and Pennsylvania resident (Snyder County) who died in 2012. Although he was born in Manchester, England, Jones came to the U.S. for work as a young man and became a member of the pop-rock group, The Monkees from 1966 to 1971, where he achieved great popularity and success. As a child performer himself in England, Jones was very supportive of our efforts in the Commonwealth, to update Pennsylvania’s child labor laws and protect not just children in the entertainment industry, but all child workers. I worked with him directly on the child labor legislation, which is now law in Pennsylvania. He provided me with guidance and insight throughout the drafting process with the Labor and Industry Committee. Our former colleagues, Rep. Ron Miller and Bruce Hanson worked extensively on this legislation and helped bring it to fruition. Davy Jones eventually settled in Snyder County, where he owned a home where he lived with his family. I will be introducing a resolution to recognize Davy Jones in the month of March for his accomplishments and contributions to our Commonwealth. Please join me in recognizing this Pennsylvania resident. |
