Skin cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in the United States, resulting in thousands of lives lost every single year. Furthermore, the number of skin cancer cases has been increasing, mainly due to over-exposure to ultraviolet (UV) radiation from sunlight as well as tanning beds and welding torches. It is crucial that Pennsylvanians take steps to reduce exposure to UV radiation in order to reduce the rates of skin cancer diagnosis and death. For this reason, I will introduce a resolution designating July 2020 as “Ultraviolet Safety Month” in Pennsylvania in order to spread awareness about the causes of skin cancer as well as simple prevention measures that everyone can take to protect themselves and their loved ones. Please join me in saving Pennsylvanians’ lives from skin cancer. |
