House Co-Sponsorship Memoranda

I am planning to introduce legislation that would allow Pennsylvania’s accredited zoos to receive waivers to reopen as long as they adhere to the CDC’s established health and social distancing protocols. 
 

I know that just about every industry is suffering greatly during these difficult times, but zoos face a particular challenge.  Though they may be closed to the public right now, their animals still need to be fed and cared for every day, without interruption, and paid employees are necessary to make that happen.  As you can imagine, this is taking a huge toll on zoo financial reserves.
  

The state’s nationally accredited zoos have earned that designation through their continued professional performance and commitment to public education, and I believe they are ready to meet the challenge required to ensure that their customers and employees are safe.  Measures such as timed ticketing and limiting viewing to outside exhibits so that social distancing is easily maintained are just some of the ways they can do this.
