Subject: | Hazard Pay for Pennsylvania’s Essential Workers |
The COVID-19 crisis has forced a multitude of businesses across Pennsylvania to close. However, essential businesses such as grocery stores, pharmacies and food processing facilities remain open. These workers, and many others deemed “essential,” are put at risk every day as their jobs involve interacting with customers and keeping products stocked while customers are in the store. Essential workers are spending their days and nights in what can only be described as hazardous conditions, risking their lives and the health and safety of their family members just to complete their work and provide the critical goods and services we depend on. This is why we plan to introduce legislation requiring large businesses with essential workers, issue hazard pay to their workers. This increase in pay during a health crisis is only fair to these hard-working Pennsylvanians given how much they are risking. These grocery and pharmacy workers are putting their health and safety on the line to ensure that we have food, medicine, and supplies to weather this storm. We ask that you support this legislation and join us in ensuring that Pennsylvania workers and their families are protected and treated fairly during these difficult times. |
