Subject: | Resolution: Israel Independence Day |
In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution designating May 14 as Israel Independence Day in Pennsylvania. On May 14, 1948, David Ben-Gurion, Israel’s first prime minister, read Israel’s Declaration of Independence. Later that same day, President Truman issued a statement recognizing of Israel’s provisional government.
The Jewish people have endured a long history of invasion, oppression, dislocation, discrimination and genocide. Please join me in recognizing this important date in history and celebrating the Israeli sovereignty.
In 2019, this resolution was considered as HR279 and was adopted without opposition. Cosponsors were as follows: FRANKEL, FREEMAN, KAUFER, SOLOMON, BARRAR, BERNSTINE, BURNS, CALTAGIRONE, GROVE, HARKINS, HILL-EVANS, JAMES, JOZWIAK, KINSEY, LONGIETTI, MACKENZIE, MADDEN, MENTZER, MILLARD, B. MILLER, NEILSON, READSHAW, ROTHMAN, RYAN, SAYLOR, STAATS, STEPHENS, ZIMMERMAN, DeLUCA, MALAGARI, McCLINTON, SCHWEYER, GILLEN and DUSH |
