MEMORANDUM

Posted: May 7, 2020 02:52 PM
From: Representative Melissa L. Shusterman
To: All House members
Subject: COVID-19 Crisis Grant Program for Non-Profit Organizations

During this global pandemic, organizations such as Goodwill Industries, United Way, YMCA, food banks, and many others are doing so much for communities throughout our Commonwealth by working with our most vulnerable populations. As we continue to see the current public health emergency unfold with COVID-19, it has become evident that our non-profit organizations will need additional financial assistance.

For this reason, I will be introducing companion legislation in the House of Representatives to Senator Killion’s recently announced bill, which would establish a grant program for these non-profit organizations based in the Commonwealth, funded by monies allocated through the federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act. The CARES Act provides over $2 trillion of economic stimulus and contains several appropriations meant to benefit the nonprofit sector.

We are hopeful that this legislation will help these organizations continue with the good work they do in all of our communities. Please join Senator Killion and I by cosponsoring this important, bipartisan legislation to help provide for programs and services that will be greatly needed in our recovery.
