Subject: | Fish For Free Days |
Since the start of trout season, streams and lakes all over the state have had anglers on them enjoying a safe, fun, family activity. Without a doubt, fishing has been a great outlet for hundreds of thousands Pennsylvanians during these challenging times. Currently in the Fish and Boat Code, the executive director may declare 2 fish-for-free days throughout the state. In past years, the executive director has chosen to do this and picked one day over Memorial Day weekend and another day over the weekend of July Fourth. Of course, bad weather during one or both of these days limits the effectiveness of this provision. I will be introducing legislation to expand this program and to require its implementation. Specifically, my bill requires the executive director of the Fish and Boat Commission to declare 4 fish-for-free days each year. Fishing has never been more important to those who already know of its many benefits. License sales are up as is daily participation. My bill will result in more Pennsylvanians giving fishing a try and offer a safe outdoor outlet to every citizen four times a year. Please join me in co sponsoring this important legislation. |
