Subject: | Paraprofessional continuing education parity extension |
Paraprofessionals do incredibly important work across our Commonwealth to help students with an Individualized Education Program succeed in school. They are key to providing a free and appropriate public education to all and are typically the most important educational aide provided to qualifying students. Like our teachers, paraprofessionals have annual continuing education requirements that need to be met. Due to the COVID-19 response, many professionals have had trouble meeting those requirements, which has caused us to extend time periods. We recently amended our school code to extend such requirements for teachers but the language did not apply to paraprofessionals. This bill corrects that. This legislation extends continuing education requirements for our paraprofessionals until June 30, 2021, which would mirror the extension provided for certified educators under Act 13. Please join me by co-sponsoring this important and timely piece of legislation. |
