Subject: | Co-sponsorship Request-Establishing K-12 Curriculum Inclusive to Disabled Individuals |
As we strive to build a more inclusive and just society, the way we educate our children is essential to progress. In particular, physical and mental disabilities are often misunderstood and stigmatized, leaving disabled individuals, particularly children, to face ostracization and exclusion from their peers. In order to help foster communities inclusive to disabled individuals, I am introducing legislation to mandate the inclusion of the political, economic, and social contributions of disabled individuals in Pennsylvania’s K-12 curriculum. By teaching our children about influential disabled individuals, such as Harriet Tubman, Franklin Delano Roosevelt, Stephen Hawking, and Michael J. Fox, we can demonstrate the profound, positive impact that disabled individuals have had on our society and work to create a more tolerant and inclusive world. Every student deserves to feel safe and supported in their educational environment. Please join me in making our schools more inclusive to students with disabilities by co-sponsoring this important resolution. |
