Subject: | COVID-19: “Clean Slate” Credit Resolution |
Pennsylvania consumers and their families are under extreme duress having suffered significant financial setbacks during the COVID-19 disaster emergency. Every day these individuals live with the stress of stretching dwindling funds to provide their family’s basic needs and keep a roof over their heads. We must acknowledge and address the significant burden of these unprecedented financial challenges. Providing relief to families fighting to survive through the COVID-19 pandemic is a priority demanding immediate attention. Therefore, I will be proposing a resolution urging financial institutions and credit card companies operating in the Commonwealth to provide consumers a “clean slate” during this unprecedented time. Financial “clean slate” measures may include a temporary reduction in payment amounts, relief from late fees, lower interest rates and similar proposals to ease financial hardship. So many of our families live daily with these challenges happening through no fault of their own. Appealing to financial institutions and creditors to help ease their burden now is an important step toward a healthier future for these families and our economy. I hope you will join me in my endeavor to provide a measure of relief for Pennsylvania families. |
