Subject: | Championing FIFA to choose Philadelphia as the home of World Cup 2026 |
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will be hosted by the United States, and Philadelphia has been selected as one of 17 finalists to host matches for the 2026 World Cup. In the year of our country’s 250th anniversary, it makes absolute sense to have the birthplace of America, Philadelphia, as the official host of the World Cup and to be chosen not only for group matches but as a destination for the final match. Philadelphia is not just our nation’s birthplace, it is also the country’s first World Heritage City. The city has a proven track record for successfully coordinating large scale events that showcase the city on the world stage, including the 2015 Papal Visit and the 2017 NFL Draft. I ask my colleagues to support bringing economic, social, and cultural benefits to this region. Please join me in championing Philadelphia in its bid to host the 2026 World Cup, allowing us to introduce the international soccer community to the best sports enthusiasts across the globe. |
