Subject: | Protecting Consumers During the National Coin Shortage |
COVID-19 has brought about many challenges throughout this year. One such challenge is the coin shortage stores are currently experiencing. A customer goes into a store, pays with cash, and then is told they cannot be given exact change. While most stores and vendors are adapting, we cannot allow bad actors to exploit the practice of shortchanging people. All Pennsylvanians deserve a fair deal and should be told prior to purchase how retailers preferred to be paid and if correct change can be given. In order to protect consumers, I will be introducing legislation which would create a system that allows customers to be notified of preferred payment methods and whether or not the store can provide proper change. My legislation will require retailers who cannot give exact change to provide store credit or round down to the next full dollar amount. I ask that you support this legislation and join me in ensuring all Pennsylvanians receive a fair deal during this trying times. |
