Subject: | Childcare for School Age Children during an Emergency Declaration |
It is possible that either by local, county, or state authority, in-person learning may be suspended or curtailed in our school districts. For many working families, remote learning or cyber education programs provide incredibly difficult challenges- especially in relation to those with younger children. Current state code prohibits a child from attending a school aged childcare program during school hours. While this is perhaps understandable in typical times, during a state emergency that also impacts in-person learning, we need to provide as much flexibility as possible to help keep people working and to make sure their kids' needs are being met. Therefore, it is our intention to introduce a bill that will provide an exception to the regulatory prohibition and allow for school aged children to participate in school aged childcare programs during a state of emergency that resulted in the suspension or curtailing of their in-person learning, while also requiring that the child’s education requirements are still met. We hope you will join us in co-sponsoring this necessary and critical change to help working families stay on the job and make sure their children’s needs are being met. |
