Subject: | Civic Education Awareness Month – October 2020 |
Democracy flourishes with an educated and engaged citizenry. Regrettably, adults and students alike still struggle in basic civic knowledge and voter participation remains low. We must continue to encourage our citizens to be knowledgeable and to participate in the “last great experiment” that is our American republic. For this reason, I plan to introduce a resolution designating October 2020 as “Civic Education Awareness Month” in Pennsylvania. Civic education increases voter turnout, lowers school dropout rates, and encourages citizens of all ages to take an active role in our democracy. As lawmakers, we have a responsibility to support greater civic education and engagement. Please join me in co-sponsoring this resolution and send a message to people throughout Pennsylvania that civic education is invaluable in this state and in this great nation. Your consideration is greatly appreciated. |
