Subject: | COVID-19: Landlord Reporting to Credit Bureau |
Forced to face unprecedented financial challenges through no fault of their own, Pennsylvania’s tenants have suffered significant setbacks during the COVID-19 pandemic. Every day these individuals struggle to survive threats to their livelihood, families and homes. The last thing these tenants need is to have their credit downgraded by a bevy of late and non-payment reports, further compromising the tenuous state of their credit. Protecting and providing relief to tenants struggling to survive through the COVID-19 pandemic is a top concern demanding our immediate attention. Therefore, I will be proposing legislation to forbid landlords from reporting late and non-payment of rent to credit bureaus during this time. Residential tenants will be assured that COVID-19 pandemic-related delinquent rent notices will not be added to their credit reports, extending for a period of six months after the termination of the COVID-19 disaster emergency declaration. Affording tenants peace of mind through the knowledge their credit reports will remain free of delinquent rent notifications is one step we can take to recover from this pandemic. I hope you will join me in my endeavor to increase protections for Pennsylvanians who need our support now, more than ever. |
