Subject: | Financial Assistance for Veterans’ Service Organizations |
As we make funding opportunities available to help revive the economy, we must not forget the impact that the novel coronavirus has had on our veterans’ organizations. Veterans’ service organizations (VSOs) play an important role in all of our communities through blood drives, youth sports, food and beverage sales, and assisting in the delivery of services and benefits to veterans. While our VSOs have faced many of the same financial struggles that small businesses have suffered during the pandemic, they have not been met with the same opportunities for funding. In order to continue serving our communities, many VSOs require much-needed financial assistance. My legislation would establish a one-time grant program to help struggling clubs with the expenses and lost revenue incurred during this public health crisis. The legislation would also provide that VSOs who hold liquor licenses not be prohibited from operating solely because they do not serve food, so long as they follow all other appropriate licensee restrictions. Our respective districts have all suffered loss during this pandemic, but it is important that we do not lose these important pillars of our community. Please join me in continuing to support the Commonwealth’s veterans by providing financial assistance for our veterans’ service organizations. |
