Subject: | Transfer of Cemetery Internment Rights |
I invite you to co-sponsor legislation amending Act 110 of 1992, known as the Cemetery Companies Law, to allow a more orderly process for burial plot transfers. Specifically, my legislation would require all subsequent transfers of plots to be approved by the cemetery company, and would grant the company the right to buy the plot, in lieu of a transfer. Currently, some plots and crypts remain unused and are passed down to multiple family members or sold to third parties, without any records provided to the cemetery company. This causes confusion, disputes and a lack of record keeping. This is especially the case because plots and crypts do not revert back to the cemetery company unless they are unused for 50 years, and then family members have an additional 30 years to make a claim. My proposal preserves ownership rights, while creating a clearinghouse for transfers to eliminate disputes and confusion. Please join me in co-sponsoring this legislation. Thank you. |
