MEMORANDUM

Posted: October 2, 2020 12:49 PM
From: Representative Steven R. Malagari
To: All House members
Subject: Recognizing October 2020 as “National Protect Your Hearing Month”

Not only does our sense of hearing inherently offer safety and protection throughout our daily routines, but the ability to hear gives us the priceless opportunity to create new memories with family and friends as well as develop new relationships with others over things like music and good conversation.

October is National Protect Your Hearing Month – a nationwide movement that seeks to raise awareness around those who are subject to losing their hearing based on their age, environment, or occupation. Despite the conventional belief about hearing loss being prevalent only among our aging population, multiple factors have proven to have a significant impact on one’s ability to hear, regardless of their age. This month-long initiative works to educate the public on methods to reduce their noise exposure while also encouraging the utilization of proper protective equipment, such as headphones or earplugs, to create a barrier in environments that pose a danger to our health.

Our sense of hearing is a valuable tool that many of us take for granted until it is too late. Please join me in supporting this resolution to better equip Pennsylvanians with the knowledge necessary to make more informed choices related to their health.
