Subject: | World Teacher's Day - October 5, 2020 |
In recognition of the occasion, I plan to introduce a resolution recognizing October 5, 2020 as World Teachers’ Day in Pennsylvania. Since 1994, World Teachers’ Day has been held annually on October 5 to commemorate the anniversary of the adoption of the 1966 International Labor Organization/United Nations Educational, Scientific and Culture Organizations (ILO/UNESCO) Recommendation Concerning the Status of Teachers, which is a standard-setting instrument that addresses the status and situations of teachers around the world. It sets forth the rights and responsibilities of teachers, and international standards for their initial preparation and further education, recruitment, employment, teaching and learning conditions. In 2020, World Teachers’ Day will celebrate teachers with the theme “Teachers: Leading in crisis, reimagining the future.” The day provides for an occasion to celebrate the teaching profession worldwide, take stock of achievements, and draw attention to the voices of teachers, who are at the heart of efforts to attain the global education target of leaving no one behind. Please consider joining me in co-sponsoring this resolution. |
