MEMORANDUM

Posted: October 19, 2020 09:40 AM
From: Representative Sara Innamorato and Rep. Greg Rothman
To: All House members
Subject: Employee Ownership Month

Working hard is at the core of what Pennsylvanians are about. Some of the hardest working Pennsylvanians are the ones that own their own businesses. We need to encourage more companies to transition to an employee-owned business, where workers can take their industries in new and exciting directions. When employees own the business, they can create a work environment with jobs that pay real wages and offer real benefits and a chance to retire – so everyone can have a brighter future.

For these reasons, we will be introducing a resolution designating October 2020 as Employee Ownership Month in Pennsylvania. These companies have achieved great success and should be honored for providing employees a chance of ownership.

As of 2018, Pennsylvania has 252 Employee Stock Ownership Plan businesses, which is the most common employee ownership practice. Studies have shown companies with employee ownership have better growth and employee stability than their counterparts. Every year over 200 companies in the United States move to employee ownership and the trend is not slowing down.

Please join us in sponsoring this resolution recognizing employee-owned companies and honoring their workers for taking the steps to provide a better future for their families and company.
