Subject: | Grants for Law Enforcement to Investigate Animal Fighting |
I am planning to reintroduce legislation (SB 397) that amends the State Gaming Law in an effort to provide additional support for efforts to rescue and protect domestic and other animals from abuse that may occur from crimes that involve illegal gambling and animal fighting. My legislation would require $250,000 to be transferred annually to the Office of Attorney General for grants to district attorneys to support investigation and enforcement efforts. The funding would be redirected from a $2 million annual transfer that is currently provided to the Gaming Control Board for other local law enforcement grants. The new transfer would also require the Attorney General to develop specific guidelines for applications and grant awards. I hope you’ll join me in sponsoring this important bill. Should have any questions, please contact my office at (717) 787-7105. Previous co-sponsors include Senators Blake, Boscola, Brewster, Browne, Costa, Farnese, Rafferty, and Tartaglione. |
