Subject: | Resolution recognizing February 25 through March 3, 2019 as National Eating Disorders Awareness Week. |
I will be introducing a resolution recognizing February 25 through March 3, 2019 as National Eating Disorders Awareness Week. The goal of National Eating Disorders Awareness Week (NEDAwareness Week) is to shine the spotlight on eating disorders by educating the public, spreading a message of hope, and putting life-saving resources into the hands of those in need. Eating disorders have the highest mortality rate of any mental illness and approximately 30 million Americans struggle at some point in their lives with an eating disorder. Unfortunately, myths and misinformation keep people from getting the help they need. The 2019 theme for NEDAwareness Week is Come as You Are, to highlight NEDA’s movement towards inclusivity in the greater eating disorder community and the goal of unifying the field of eating disorders. In particular, Come as You Are sends a message to individuals at all stages of body acceptance and eating disorders recovery that their stories are valid. I hope that you will join me in co-sponsoring this resolution. |
