Subject: | Designating April 2019 as "Occupational Therapy Month" in Pennsylvania |
In the near future, I plan to introduce a resolution designating April 2019 as "Occupational Therapy Month" in Pennsylvania. Occupational therapists help people of every age live life to the fullest. They help children with disabilities play, socialize and prepare for school. They help adults recovering from injury to get back to work and enjoying their hobbies. And they help senior citizens safely continue to live in their homes and communities as they age. The vital services provided by these professionals are available through hospitals, rehabilitation hospitals, home health agencies, schools, clinics, psychiatric facilities, community-based service centers, and nursing homes. As doctors and patients alike realize how valuable occupational therapy is in treating those with illnesses, injuries and disabilities, experts predict the field of occupational therapy will grow 24 percent by 2026, adding some 31,000 jobs nationally. The health and productivity of the citizens of Pennsylvania depend on the effective use of health care resources, including the important services of occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants. Therefore, please join me and the Pennsylvania Occupational Therapy Association in recognizing the achievements and contributions of these valued health professionals by co-sponsoring this resolution and declaring April 2019 as Occupational Therapy Month in Pennsylvania. |
