Subject: | Concurrent Resolution—"Stronger than Hate Day” in Pennsylvania |
On Wednesday, April 10, 2019, I will be offering a concurrent resolution to be adopted in a joint session of the General Assembly designating that day is “Stronger Than Hate Day” in Pennsylvania. On October 27, 2018, a gunman entered the Tree of Life synagogue building in the Squirrel Hill neighborhood of Pittsburgh killing several worshipers gathered for sabbath services and wounding several others including police officers. The gunman, inspired by hateful ideas, was eventually captured and will face justice. Our vibrant and diverse community, while at first shocked, pulled together and demonstrated that its love and respect for others of varied backgrounds was stronger than the hate espoused in that violent rampage. In fact, support poured into our community from all over the world proving that together, we are all stronger than hate. I ask you to support this concurrent resolution that will be adopted in the joint session and a draft copy of which is attached for your consideration. Thank you. |
