Subject: | Designating June 3, 2019 as Alex’s Lemonade Stand Day |
Soon I will introduce a resolution that will designate June 3, 2019 as “Alex’s Lemonade Stand Day” in Pennsylvania. The resolution will also encourage all citizens to contribute to the Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation and other pediatric cancer research programs. As you may know, Alexandra Scott was my constituent. Two days before her first birthday, young Alex was diagnosed with neuroblastoma, an aggressive childhood cancer. During one of several treatments, Alex announced to her family that when she left the hospital she would like to have a lemonade stand. In July 2000, at the age of 4, Alex opened her first lemonade stand to raise money for pediatric cancer research. Alex continued to hold a lemonade stand annually until she passed away at the age of eight on August 1, 2004. Prior to her passing, Alex raised over $1 million for pediatric cancer research to help the thousands of children diagnosed with pediatric cancer each year. Subsequently, Alex’s parents established the Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation to accept and manage the donations pouring in from around the world. Annually, a weekend in June is designated “Lemonade Days.” During this weekend, thousands of “Alex’s Lemonade Stands” are held across the United States, with profits donated to pediatric cancer research. Since 2000, the Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation has raised over $150 million for this vital work. By designating June 3, 2019 as “Alex’s Lemonade Day,” Pennsylvanians will have the opportunity to join Alex in her fight to find a cure for pediatric cancer. I request that you join me in co-sponsoring this special legislation to help continue a young girl’s dream. If you have questions about this legislation, please don’t hesitate to contact me. |
