Subject: | Adding Motorcycles to the Automobile Lemon Law |
In the near future, I plan on introducing legislation that will add motorcycles to Pennsylvania’s Automobile Lemon Law. Currently, the Automobile Lemon Law protects those who purchase vehicles by requiring manufacturers to repair any defect that significantly affects the use, value, or safety of the vehicle, as long as the defect occurs within the first 12,000 miles or within the first year of ownership. However, no similar protection is offered to those who purchase motorcycles, leaving the owner to either pay out of pocket to repair issues that would have been covered under the Automobile Lemon Law, were it a car, or to fix the problem themselves. We need to take steps to ensure that consumers are protected so they are not liable for a potentially dangerous manufacturing defect. I hope you will join me in cosponsoring this important piece of legislation. Please do not hesitate to contact my office with any questions. |
