Subject: | Resolution urging Congress to enact the election security recommendations from the United States Senate Select Committee on Intelligence |
In the near future I plan on introducing a resolution urging Congress to enact the recommendations from the United States Select Committee on Intelligence report on “Russian Active Measures Campaigns and Interference in the 2016 U.S. Election.” On July 25, 2019, the U.S. Senate Select Committee on Intelligence issued a report on Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election. Their report found that the Russian government conducted an “unprecedented level of activity against state election infrastructure.” The Select Committee on Intelligence recommended reinforcing states’ primacy in running elections, building a stronger deference by creating effective deterrence, improving information sharing on threats, securing election-related systems and securing the vote by rapidly replacing outdated and vulnerable voting systems. Congress should immediately take up these recommendations to ensure that our elections are secure in time for the 2020 presidential election. Please join me in sponsoring this resolution. Please do not hesitate to contact my office if you have any questions. |
